Building a Future

When Jasmine first connected with Boreal Development, she was homeless and surviving by creating and selling art from the back of her car. She had long been interested in carpentry but did not know how to turn that interest into a career. After seeing a news story about our apprenticeship readiness program, she reached out and took her first steps toward a new future.

Jasmine joined the program last spring. Working alongside our staff, she set meaningful goals and created a plan to reach them. Before long, she had found an apartment and secured a part-time job as a home health aide. With greater stability in her life, Jasmine poured herself into the program, earning every available certificate and completing her Multi-Craft Core Curriculum credential.

This fall, Jasmine took another exciting step: she applied to Lake Superior College’s Carpentry program and was accepted. She continues to work part-time and still lives in the same apartment. Best of all, she loves being in school and working toward her dream job.
