Hands-On Training Day 2

  • 1 min read

Last week, Boreal Development participants wrapped up the weatherization project at Vita Nova’s transitional housing facility. The work was supported by a Clean Energy Resource Teams grant, and you can read more about the project in an earlier post here.

By the end of the second day of the project, participants had installed a new storm door, insulated rim joists, and finished caulking the windows. They also sealed exterior doors with new weather stripping, foam tape, and thresholds, added foam board in the crawl space to cut down on air leaks, and replaced two basement windows.

For our program participants, the project was a valuable chance to put their classroom learning into practice. Working on a real job site helped them build skills, gain confidence, and see firsthand how they can make a difference.

These improvements will help reduce the building’s energy use and carbon emissions, while also lowering heating costs. That means Vita Nova can put more of its resources toward its mission and the people it serves.
