As promised, we have more information available now about signing up for YouthBuild. YouthBuild will be an opportunity for participants to learn construction skills, obtain their GED, develop leadership skills, and support nonprofits in the community that provide housing or services to people who are homeless.
The first cohort will be from January 5, 2026 to June 26, 2026. It will take place during the day, in-person, on weekdays. Participants will obtain their GED/diploma, participate in classroom and hands-on construction training, and participate in leadership, financial literacy, and work readiness training. Participants will also have wrap around support, career counseling, and job search assistance.

If you are interested in YouthBuild, reach out to Rena at True North Goodwill. True North Goodwill is coordinating the program, and Boreal Development is the construction training partner. You are eligible if:
You are age 18-24
You live in St. Louis County
You meet income guidelines
You have not yet attained GED or high school diploma and not enrolled in school
You will need an ID, Social Security card, and proof of income
If you're not sure if you qualify, reach out to Rena and ask her your questions.
The first cohort of YouthBuild will begin in January. The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is supporting this initiative, and partners include True North Goodwill, Duluth Adult Education, City of Duluth Workforce Development and YES Duluth, and Boreal Development.
If you are over 24 and interested in a similar program, reach out to Melissa about other Boreal Development offerings. We also provide construction training programs to adults, and our next cohort for adults also begins in January.
